Intuitive photo editing for photographers

It’s a great time to be a digital photographer. The price of digital SLR cameras are falling, and in the last year or so some amazing new software packages have debuted that make advanced photo editing easier and more affordable than ever before. Among the most intuitive is a relatively new kid on the block called LightZone, and it’s gaining popularity with each new version (the most current as of this writing being 3.0.6). The fully featured edition, with its digital asset management and batch processing abilities, is built for pros doing high-volume shoots.

It's grillin' time!

After months of research, studying grill after grill after grill, and multiple nights studying Consumer Reports--I bought a grill. Not just any grill, for her name is Hoss. She's a Weber Genesis E-320 and my husband Shawn expertly put her together while I was toiling away on the iPhoto Missing Manual over at Pogue's place.

Getting ear molds in the City

In the first of what could be a relatively long line of purchases to accessorize my iPhone, I took the train into the City (Manhattan) to get molds made of my inner ears.

Fleeting moments of fame

It's been three days since I spent 22 hours in line at the Apple Store on 5th Avenue to equip the King family with iPhones. Never in my life have I experienced such a pleasurable and memorable shopping adventure. By the time it was all over, I would have happily given them $600 for the experience alone!

It's iPhone Week!

Queen of the MacMacs

Whee! I've been waiting for this week for years. Tomorow I will take my place in line with my fellow MacMacs to buy an iPhone on Friday evening at 6:00 pm. And those of you who aren't into the iPhone, you should be. It could well be the coolest device in the history of the planet.

Yes, that's right, I will indeed be in line for over 24 hours. I don't know if you could call it camping per say, but I will be spending the night on the streets of NYC (which is as close to being homeless as I ever plan to be).

Easy and elegant slideshow authoring

So many pictures, so few people willing to sit through your slideshows. That might change if you start using FotoMagico 2.0.1 Pro, a powerful yet easy-to-use slideshow authoring tool. Its intuitive interface and high level of motion, text, and audio control let you quickly create a viewing experience brimming with ambience and anticipation.

Building Blocks: Secrets to Great Graphic Design

Howdy everyone! I'm pleased to say that I have a feature in the current Layers Magazine (July/August edition). Here's a little excerpt:

"Do you know “The Secret”? Have you heard about it? Since this fine magazine is in your hot little hands, then you must have! I’m talking about the secret to great graphic design, of course, not a recent episode of Oprah...

Cosmic dragon!

The highlight of my Austin trip, aside from meeting tons of brilliant iStockphoto contributors, was getting a little addition to my artwork by Jose at True Blue Tattoo Studio. We spent about 2.5 hours together while he added to the beautiful dragon he had created a year before (that one took 1.5 hrs). This entire tattoo is Shawn's fault because he introduced me to Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern.

Hello Austin!

I've been here just barely over 24 hours and already there's been two Flaming Dr. Peppers and one "fish couch" involved.

I'm here for the iStockalypse event and to be quite honest, I'm *still* recovering from last week in Ojai, CA (and not in the good happy way either). You'll notice there were no pictures. Pictures would have required going outside and being in somewhat of a Recreational Mode, and that, my friends, didn't happen. I didn't even go out to dinner :(

Meeting my very own Guitar Hero

You know, even as I type this I still can't believe it, but yesterday I met Megadeth. M-E-T met. As in made eye contact with, had a conversation with, exchanged laughs with kinda MET. This was merely my second Personal Rock Star Encounter and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you I thought I was going to throw up. No joke. Ask Shawn, he was there (and got some great pictures).
